Article 2:
"Government acts to curb younger smoker"
1. What are the measures to curb smoking?
The government has increased the fines from $30 to $100. It has also ban the sale of certain tobacco products. In addition, it has lowered the permit of tobacco and nicotine level.Retailers who are caught selling cigarettes to those who are underage, will have their license revoked instead of suspending the license for six months or fined up to $10000.Th government has increased the packing size of cigarettes from 10 to 20 to make it more expensive for students to buy it. Labelling the cigarette packing such as '"light" ,"mild' and "ultra light" will be banned as this misleads the students.
2.How successful do you think these measures would be? Support your answer with reasons.
It might not be successful as expected.I mean if students can afford to buy cigarettes which are quite expensive now itself, why can't they afford it after the hike in prices? Some of these teenagers are addicted to this bad habit and I am sure that they find one way or another the buy this cigarettes. Furthermore,we don't know the number of students getting cigarettes illegally. This is a problem which cannot be stopped at this age unless the government educates students from young for example primary school.

Question 1-
State any two reasons mentioned in the article which contributes to the sharp rise in girls under 16 having sex.
There are quite a number of reasons that contribute to the sharp rise in girls under 16 having sex. One of the most important reason is due to the desire for a closer connection with their boyfriend.
Another main reason would be the pressure by their boyfriends into giving themselves.
Question 2-
What are some of your reactions after reading this article? If one day, a close friend of yours confess to you that he/she has been engaging in sex, what would your advice to him/her be?
This article as rather shocking as the i did not expect such a large number of teens been engaged in sex. This shows how much the teens now are influenced by friends and television programs like gossip girls. However, having sex with the "loved" once is the 'in' thing nowadays.
If my friend ever confesses to me, i would most probably ask her to consult a counsellor and advice her to break up with her boy friend if she is been pressurised by her boyfriend. If she is willing to do it, i would ask her to think TWICE.
